     Like most people, I was brought up to look upon life as a process of getting; to me, life was a matter of getting instead of giving. It was not until in my late thirties that I made this important discovery: giving-away makes life so exciting. I finally realized that in this world it is almost impossible to give away anything without getting something in return, though it often comes in an unexpected way.
     One Sunday morning, the local postman delivered an important special delivery letter to my home, which was actually addressed to me at my office. To express my appreciation, I wrote the postmaster a thank-you note. A year later, I needed a post-office box for my new business. I was told at the window that there were no boxes available and that my name had to go on long waiting list. As I was about to leave, the postmaster appeared in the doorway. He had overheard our conversation. "Did you write us that letter a year ago about delivering a special delivery letter to your home? " I said, "Yes, I did." "Well, you are certainly going to have a box in this post office for your new business even if we have to make one for you. You don't know what a letter like that means to us. We usually get nothing but complaints.”
